OIL SEAL HIGH GEAR 4 SPEED METAL BACKED
Metal-backed oil seal for the high gear shaft on the Triumph four-speed gearbox.
This is the oil seal for the high gear (mainshaft) on the four-speed gearbox, part number 57-0946M, and it's the metal-backed version. It sits at the end of the gearbox where the high gear shaft comes through the casing, and its job is simple: keep the gear oil in the box instead of letting it work its way out along the shaft.

The metal backing on this seal matches how the originals were built, which gives it a bit more rigidity going in and helps it seat properly against the casing. If your gearbox has been weeping oil around the high gear area, a tired or hardened seal here is a common cause, and it's cheap insurance to replace it while you've got the cover off anyway.
We don't have a lot of extra catalog history on this one beyond the part number itself, but it's listed for the four-speed unit gearbox used across the 650 twins. If you're not sure which seal your gearbox takes, give us a call before you order and we'll sort it out.
Sorry if we got something wrong here. If you think this information isn't correct, .
