Auto Advance Mechanism
An automatic ignition advance mechanism that mounts behind the contact breaker to adjust timing with engine speed.
This is an automatic advance mechanism, the assembly that lives behind the contact breaker plate and shifts the ignition timing as engine speed rises. It works with the points setup shown in the timing cover figure, taking up mechanical slack with weights and springs so the spark comes in earlier as revs climb and retards again at idle.

Our catalog record for this one is thin - it shows up once, tied to engine timing cover and contact breaker figures from the early 1970s, and that's about all we can confirm from the books. Given how central this part is to reliable starting and running, it's worth having someone check the weights, pivots, and springs for wear before it goes back on an engine.
If you're cross-checking against a parts book or an old invoice, bring the number in and we'll match it up against what we have on the shelf. We want to make sure the advance mechanism you get actually mates with your points plate and cam before you buy.
Sorry if we got something wrong here. If you think this information isn't correct, .
