BSA Valve spring collet
A valve spring collet for the cylinder head, one of the pair that locks the spring retainer onto the valve stem.

This is a valve spring collet, part number 40-0167, listed in the cylinder head and exhaust pipe sections of the parts books. Collets are the small cone-shaped pieces that lock onto the valve stem groove and hold the spring retainer in place under tension, keeping the whole valve train stack together at the top of the head.
