Grease retainer (brake side)
Grease retainer for the brake-side wheel hub, keeping bearing lubricant away from the brake shoes.
This is the grease retainer that sits on the brake side of the wheel hub, part number 37-1474, also known under the older W1474 designation. It shows up in both front and rear wheel figures across a long catalog run, which tells you this style of retainer was used at more than one wheel position over the years.

A grease retainer's job is straightforward: it keeps the lubricant in the wheel bearing where it belongs and keeps it from migrating onto the brake shoes or drum. On these older Triumphs with cable/drum brakes, contamination on the friction surfaces is bad news, so this little washer-like part is doing real work even though it looks unremarkable sitting in your hand.
If you're rebuilding a hub, it's worth checking the condition of this retainer along with the bearing it seals. It's a small, inexpensive item in the parts book, and it's the kind of thing that's easy to overlook until you've got the brake drum full of grease.
