Crank pinion nut, C-range
Crank pinion nut for the C-range engine, secures the timing-side pinion on the crankshaft.
This is the crank pinion nut for the C-range engine, the nut that holds the timing-side pinion secure on the end of the crankshaft. It shows up in the crankshaft and connecting rods section of the parts book, and it's also known by the older S1914 number if you're working from an earlier catalog.

It's a small part but an important one — it's what keeps the pinion from working loose on the crank as the engine runs. The catalog places this across a handful of C-range appearances through the early '70s, so if you're rebuilding a bottom end from this era, it's worth checking this nut for wear or damage before you put the engine back together, especially if it's been off and on more than once.
Given what it does, most people replace it any time the crank is disturbed rather than reuse the old one. If you're not sure whether your engine is a C-range unit, give us a call and we'll confirm before you order.
