Norton Oil Seal

Oil seal for the timing-side crankshaft area on a Norton engine, sealing the timing cover against oil leaks.

PN · 04-8023

This is an oil seal for the timing side of a Norton engine, sitting down in the timing cover area where it seals against the crankshaft. The catalog places it right alongside the contact breaker, oil pump, and oil pressure relief valve, so it's doing its work in the same general neighborhood as the ignition timing gear and the oil feed circuitry on that side of the motor.

Its job is straightforward: keep oil inside the timing chest where it belongs and keep it from working its way out past the crankshaft as it spins. A seal in this location takes a lot of quiet wear over the years, and if it's original to the bike, age alone is usually reason enough to have a look at it, especially if you're seeing oil weeping from the timing cover.

Our catalog record only ties this to one entry from the mid-1970s, so we don't have a broader model spread to point to. Call the shop and we'll confirm fitment against your specific engine before you order.
