The gearbox sits on the front wheel axle and takes drive off the wheel rotation to spin the speedometer cable, so the reading on the gauge tracks correctly with wheel speed. Because the ratio and axle bore have to match both the wheel you're running and the speedometer head fitted, get the numbers off your own setup before ordering — a mismatch here means a speedo that reads wrong no matter how good the cable and head are.
