Gearchange quadrant
A toothed gearchange quadrant from the gearbox outer cover assembly, part number 7408/9.
The gearchange quadrant is the toothed sector that lives under the gearbox outer cover, riding on the end of the selector shaft where the gear pedal linkage does its work. Every time you tap the lever, this piece pivots to rotate the selector mechanism and pick the next gear. It's a wear item worth checking any time the cover is off, since slop here shows up as vague or spongy shifting.

This one, part number 7408/9, turns up in the gearbox outer cover figure across catalog listings spanning 1964 to 1971. The manufacturer code on file points to Amal, but Amal made carburetors, not gearbox internals, so take that tag with a grain of salt here - this is a gearbox part through and through.
