Tappet

Cylinder tappet from the engine top end, catalog listing for 1983.

PN · 71-7644

This is a tappet, listed in the cylinder block and head section for the engine top end. Tappets are the intermediary between the cam lobe and the valve gear, riding on the camshaft and transmitting that lobe's lift up through the pushrod to work the valve. A worn or pitted tappet foot will show up as extra clatter from the top end and can throw off your valve clearances even after you've just set them.
