This is a camshaft that comes complete with its pinion already fitted, listed in the crankcase section of the parts book. The camshaft rides in the crankcase and its lobes work the tappets to open and close the valves in time with the rest of the engine, and the pinion on the end is what ties it into the timing gear train so it stays in step with the crank.
