WASHER ALUMINUM TDC PLUG
Aluminum sealing washer fitted under the TDC timing plug in the crankcase.
This is the aluminum sealing washer that goes under the TDC (top dead center) timing plug in the crankcase. It's a small, cheap-to-replace piece, but it's the thing that keeps oil from seeping out around the timing plug once you've pulled it to check piston position with a timing tool.

Catalog records list it as 70-8896, with E8896 as the older-style alias number, and it shows up in crankcase-figure listings across catalog years 1968 through 1974. Because it's soft aluminum, it deforms slightly to seal on first tightening, which is why most people replace it any time the plug comes out rather than reusing the old one.
It supersedes an earlier factory number, 70-0697, so if your parts book lists that number instead, it's the same washer under the older part identity.
