This is a gasket for the primary chaincase cover, the part that seals the joint between the outer chaincase cover and the case body so oil stays where it belongs and dirt stays out. It shows up in the catalog under the CLUTCH AND PRIMARY CHAINCASE figure, which tells you where it lives on the bike but not much beyond that.
