Distributor hole plug
Crankcase blanking plug that seals the distributor hole when no distributor is fitted.
This is the crankcase plug that fills the distributor hole on engines that didn't run a distributor. It's a simple blanking plug, its whole job is to keep the hole in the crankcase sealed off so nothing leaks or gets pulled in where it shouldn't. In the parts book it shows up under the CRANKCASE figure, and the older catalog form of this same part is stamped E4587.

It's a small item but it matters if your engine case has that provision and you're not running a distributor setup through it - an open hole in the crankcase is an open door for oil and dirt. Catalog listings for this one run from the late 1960s.
If you're not sure whether your case has the distributor hole or already has this plug fitted, give us a call before you order and we'll help you sort it out.
