Joint washer

A joint washer used at a primary-side cover joint on the engine, also known under the earlier factory number 71-1419.

PN · 70-3832
Supersedes 71-1419 — earlier factory number for this part.

70-3832 is a joint washer, what most folks would just call a gasket, that shows up in the primary side of the motor. It appears in both the chaincase and chains figure and the crankcase figure across the catalog, which tells you it seals a cover joint in that area rather than anything deeper in the engine internals. The older factory number for this same part was 71-1419, so if your parts book or an old box of spares shows that number, it is the same gasket under its earlier designation.

This is the kind of part that gets replaced any time the cover it seals against gets pulled off, whether for a clutch inspection, sprocket work, or general primary service. A tired or torn gasket here is a common source of oil seeping out around that joint, so it is worth having a fresh one on hand whenever you are into that side of the engine.

The catalog record spans a good number of appearances across the years, which just means this gasket was used consistently rather than swapped out for a redesign. If you are matching this against your parts book, cross-check the number against 71-1419 as well before you order, since both numbers point to the same physical washer.
