DOWEL 3/8 OD 5/16 ID
Crankcase locating dowel, 3/8 in. OD x 5/16 in. ID, for Triumph twin engine cases.
This is the crankcase locating dowel Triumph used to keep the two crankcase halves registered to each other, part number 70-3716, also listed as E3716 in the older letter-prefix numbering. It shows up in the crankcase section of the parts books and appears across a long run of catalog years, so it's a part that stuck around largely unchanged through a lot of Triumph twin production.

The dowel is a simple hollow pin, 3/8 in. OD and 5/16 in. ID, that fits into matched holes in the crankcase mating faces to hold the two halves in true alignment before the case bolts are drawn up. Without it, or with a worn one, the cases can shift slightly on assembly, which throws off bearing and shaft alignment.
If you're splitting cases for a rebuild, it's worth pulling these and checking them for wear or damage rather than assuming they're fine — a scored or mushroomed dowel won't locate the halves properly. Confirm quantity needed and exact fitment against your own parts book before ordering.
