Main bearing, left (metric)
Left-side crankshaft main bearing (roller type), factory part 70-2879, later superseded by 68-0625.
70-2879 is the left-side main bearing on the crankshaft, a roller bearing that lives in the crankcase and carries the drive-side end of the crank. It shows up in the parts book under the CRANKSHAFT AND CONNECTING RODS figure, and it's also known by the older E2879 number and the bearing-maker's own part code MRJA1 1/8 C2. This one was later renumbered by the factory to 68-0625, so if you're cross-referencing an older parts list or a newer one, those numbers are all the same physical bearing.

A main bearing like this holds the crankshaft true inside the case and takes the radial load as the crank spins, so wear here shows up as play or noise at the bottom end. Given the number of appearances in the catalog across a long production run, this is not an unusual replacement item.
When you're ordering, have your engine number and crankcase details on hand — main bearings on these motors were supplied in different clearance grades over the years, and getting the wrong one can mean the difference between a bearing that runs quiet and one that doesn't. If you're not sure which clearance grade your engine takes, give us a call before you order.
