Shakeproof washer
A 1/4 inch shakeproof serrated washer used across many Triumph fastener locations from 1960 into the early 1980s.
This is a 1/4 inch shakeproof washer, part number 70-1612, one of the small hardware items that shows up all over the Triumph parts books rather than in just one spot. The catalog turns it up in dozens of different assemblies going back to 1960 and running through into the early 1980s, everywhere from cylinder head and gearbox cover fasteners to electrical box mounts, footrest fittings, and fork legs. It's also known by the alias E1612.

A shakeproof washer has serrated edges that bite into the surrounding metal and the underside of the fastener head, resisting the fastener working loose under vibration. Given how many different figures list this washer, it's clearly a general-purpose fastener used at various points across the machine rather than a part tied to one specific job.
Because it turns up under so many headings, this is one to buy by matching the fastener you're replacing rather than by figure title alone. If you're not sure which bolt or screw on your bike calls for it, bring in the old one or give us a call and we'll confirm before you order.
