BSA Plunger, gearchange quadrant
Gearchange quadrant plunger for the gearbox shifting mechanism, part number 68-3096.
This is the gearchange quadrant plunger, part number 68-3096. It lives inside the gearchange mechanism, working against the quadrant to hold each gear selection steady once the lever has done its job. You'll find it referenced in the inner timing cover and gearchange mechanism sections of the parts books.

The plunger is a small but important piece of the shifting assembly - it's spring-loaded and rides in a bore where it indexes against the quadrant, giving the gearchange that positive, notched feel instead of letting the mechanism float between gears. When these wear or the spring behind them goes soft, shifting can start to feel sloppy or the lever can lose its return action.
Our catalog record ties this one to appearances from 1969 into 1970. If you're not sure this is the right plunger for your gearbox, give us a call before you order and we'll sort out fitment.
