BSA "O" ring — oil pump spindle housing
O-ring seal for the oil pump spindle housing, part 68-0289.
This is the O-ring used on the oil pump spindle housing, part number 68-0289 (also shown as 68-289 in some listings). It shows up in the oil pump and gearbox sprocket figures, sealing where the oil pump spindle passes through its housing so oil pressure stays where it belongs instead of weeping out around the spindle.

It's a small, cheap-to-overlook seal, but it's the kind of part that causes a slow oil leak or pressure loss if it's hardened or missing when the pump gets serviced. The catalog shows this part across a run of years in the late '60s into the early '70s, appearing in several related oil pump and gearbox figures rather than just one.
If you're pulling the oil pump for inspection or a rebuild, it's worth having one of these on hand — once the old one has been compressed and heated a few times it rarely reseals well going back together.
