BSA Valve — rotary breather

A rotary breather valve from the timing-side gear cluster/camshaft assembly, part number 68-0131.

PN · 68-0131

This is a rotary breather valve, part number 68-0131 (also listed as 68-131 in older references). It shows up in the parts-book figures covering the gear cluster and camshaft area, which tells us it's tied into the timing-side gear train where crankcase pressure gets vented.

A rotary breather works off the rotation of a shaft or gear in the timing chest, opening and closing a passage as it spins so the crankcase can release built-up pressure without letting oil escape everywhere. It's a small part but an important one for keeping seals from getting pushed out and for keeping the bottom end from weeping oil under running pressure.

Our catalog record ties this one to the gear cluster and camshaft assembly across appearances from 1969 to 1972, but we don't have a more specific model tied to it. Give us a call and we'll confirm fitment against your particular engine before you order.
