Suspension Unit
A Girling rear suspension unit (shock absorber) from the mid-1960s swinging fork and suspension units figure.
This is a rear suspension unit off the Girling side of the parts counter, not a Triumph-branded piece even though it lived on Triumphs for years. It shows up in the SWINGING FORK, SUSPENSION UNITS AND CHAINGUARD figure, which puts it right where you'd expect - one of the pair mounted between the swinging arm and the frame at the rear of the bike, doing the job of soaking up bumps so the back end doesn't beat the rider up.

The catalog record on this one spans several years in the mid-1960s and turns up across seven different listings, which tells you it was a common item during that stretch rather than a one-year oddball. We don't have a breakdown in our own records of which specific models it was speced for, so if you're matching up a pair for a restoration, cross-check the shock's length and mounting eyes against what's currently on the bike before you order.
If you're hunting this part under a different number, worth noting that Girling shocks of this era show up cross-referenced under several closely related part numbers - so if your parts book or an old invoice has a slightly different string of digits, it may still be pointing at the same physical shock. Give us a call if you want to confirm before you buy.
