Speedo drive gearbox
Veglia-type speedometer drive gearbox that fits at the rear wheel spindle, left-hand side.
This is the speedo drive gearbox for bikes running a Veglia speedometer, fitted at the rear wheel where it picks up rotation off the wheel spindle and sends that motion up the cable to the speedo head. The figure title in our parts book calls it out specifically for use with the Veglia speedo drive box on the left-hand side of the rear wheel, so it's not interchangeable with the Smiths-style drive setups.

The old alias number for this one is I172C, if you're working from an earlier parts list. Catalog appearances run from 1979 through 1985, which lines up with the Veglia-equipped bikes from that era.
If you're not sure whether your rear wheel is set up for a Veglia drive or something else, check what's currently fitted before ordering — the drive gearbox has to match the speedo and the wheel end it bolts into.
