Front brake cable

Front brake control cable for 1971-1972 machines, later revised to 60-3557E.

PN · 60-3557
Current factory number 60-3557E — same part, sold under this listing.
Available in 5 versions:

This is the front brake cable listed in the control cables section of the parts books, catalogued for 1971 and 1972 machines. It runs from the front brake lever down to the front brake arm at the wheel, and on a drum-brake front end like these bikes had, this cable is what transmits the rider's hand pressure at the lever to the brake shoes at the hub.

You'll see this part turn up under a few different numbers depending on which edition of the parts book you're holding - D3557 and MC-669 are earlier forms of the same listing, and the factory later revised it to 60-3557E, which is the number you'll find if your book is from a bit further down the line. All of these point to the same physical cable in our records.

Given the narrow year window this one is catalogued for, fitment is worth double-checking against your specific machine before you order. Cables are also just wear items generally - the housing and inner wire take a lot of flex and road grime over the years, so if yours is fraying, kinked, or hard to actuate smoothly, that's reason enough to swap it out.
