Split pin (1/16 in. diam. x 3/8 in. long)
A 1/16 in. x 3/8 in. split pin used to lock clevis pins, spindles, and fasteners in place on wheel, footrest, and rear suspension linkages.
This is the small split pin, 1/16 inch diameter by 3/8 inch long, that shows up across a handful of different assemblies on the bike rather than one single spot. Our catalog records place it in the footrest and brake linkage area, the front wheel, and the swinging arm and centre stand and rear brake control assemblies, which tells you it's a general-purpose locking pin Triumph used wherever a clevis pin, spindle, or nut needed to be kept from working loose.

A split pin like this does one job: it passes through a drilled hole in a shaft, pin, or nut and spreads to stop that fastener from backing out under vibration. It's not glamorous, but it's the kind of small part that keeps bigger assemblies from coming apart on the road.
You'll also see this part number written as 98401A409 or D2683 in older parts books. It's cheap insurance to keep a few in the parts drawer since these are one-time-use pins in practice - once you straighten and pull one out, it's usually not fit to go back in.
