Circlip for layshaft high gear
Circlip that retains the layshaft high gear inside the gearbox, used in catalog listings from 1978 to 1985.
This is the circlip that locates the layshaft high gear inside the gearbox, keeping that gear pinned in its correct position on the shaft so it can't walk sideways under load. It's a small part but an important one - a circlip that's worked loose or been reused one too many times can let the gear train shift out of alignment, which shows up as odd noises or a gearbox that won't stay in the gear you selected.

Our catalog record ties this one to the gearbox shafts and gears assembly, appearing across catalog listings from 1978 through 1985. If you're rebuilding a gearbox on a bike from that era it's worth having a fresh one on hand rather than reusing the old clip, since circlips lose their grip once they've been sprung open and closed a few times.
Check your parts book or give us a call if you're not sure this is the exact clip your gearbox needs - there's more than one circlip inside a layshaft assembly and it pays to match the right one to the right groove.
