This is the leaf spring for the four-speed gearbox inner cover and selector mechanism, listed in the parts book under the GEARBOX INNER COVER AND SELECTORS figure. It's part of the selector detent setup that helps hold the gear selector in position as you shift. The catalog shows this number appearing across 1971-72 listings, and it also carries the older T4288 letter-prefix designation from before the numeric part-numbering system took over.

This spring is one half of a pair - it works alongside 57-4289, the other leaf spring in the same selector assembly, and the two are commonly ordered together since they live in the same spot doing the same job. If you're rebuilding the selector mechanism it's worth checking both while the cover's off.

We stock this under 57-4288. If your parts book shows T4288 instead, that's the same physical part, just the earlier naming convention.
