Selector fork rod

The selector fork rod from the gearbox, which the selector forks ride on to shift gears.

PN · 57-3989

This is the selector fork rod out of the gearbox, part number 57-3989, known in the older parts books as T3989. It shows up in the gearbox inner cover and selectors figures as well as the crankcase listings, which tells you it's a shaft that runs through the gearbox internals and carries the selector forks that shift the gears.

The rod is a straightforward but important piece of hardware. If it's worn, bent, or the forks on it are sloppy, you'll feel it as vague or hard-to-find gear changes. It's not a part most people think about until the gearbox starts acting up.

Our catalog record covers a run from 1970 into the mid-1980s across a number of listings, so this rod turns up in a lot of gearbox rebuilds from that era. Pull your old one and compare it side by side before ordering, since gearbox internals can vary by casing type.
