LAYSHAFT LOW GEAR (29T)
Layshaft low gear (29 tooth) for the gearbox cluster, giving first gear; later superseded by 57-4033.
This is the layshaft low gear, 29 tooth, out of the gearbox internals. It's part of the gear cluster that rides on the layshaft and works with its mating pinion on the mainshaft to give you first gear. The catalog carries it under the old T1961 designation as well as 57-1961, so if you're working from an older parts book that's the same piece.

It shows up in the gearbox shafts, bearings, and inner cover section of the parts books, which is where you'd expect a layshaft gear to live alongside the bearings and bushes that support the shaft. Our records show it appearing across catalog listings from 1966 to 1969, so this is the gear you'd be chasing if you're rebuilding a box from that era and first gear is chipped, worn, or making noise.
Worth knowing before you order: this part was superseded by 57-4033. If you're sourcing new old stock or matching parts on the bench, check whether your box already has the later gear fitted, since the two are the same job but carry different numbers depending on when the box was built or serviced.
