PN · 57-1747

This is the speedo drive pinion for sidecar outfits, part number 57-1747, also listed under the older T1747 designation. It shows up in the gearbox shafts and gears section of the parts books, where it works as part of the gear train that drives the speedometer cable off the gearbox.

Sidecar setups often ran different gearing on the speedo drive than solo bikes, since the sidecar wheel changes the effective rotation and speed relationship at the rear. This pinion is the sidecar-specific version of that gear.

We don't have a lot more detail on file for this one beyond its place in the gearbox shafts and gears figure. If you're rebuilding a gearbox on a sidecar-equipped bike and need to confirm this is the right pinion for your setup, give us a call before you order.
