GEAR CHANGE SPRING,PAWL
Pawl spring for the gear change mechanism, fitted under the gearbox outer cover.
This is the pawl spring out of the gear change mechanism, sitting under the gearbox outer cover along with the change lever and quadrant. It's a small spring that keeps tension on the selector pawl so the gear change mechanism returns and engages properly each time you work the lever. Old catalogs list it as T1436 before the numbering switched over to 57-1436.

It's a simple, inexpensive item, but it's the kind of thing that's easy to overlook when a gearbox outer cover comes apart for other work. If the change action feels vague or doesn't snap back cleanly, a tired pawl spring is worth checking while you're in there.
The catalog record spans a long run of appearances through the outer cover and levers figure, so it's clearly a long-lived part in the gearbox family, but check your own parts book for the exact fitment on your machine before ordering.
