Layshaft 2nd gear (27T)
27-tooth layshaft second gear for the gearbox shaft cluster, listed under the earlier T974 number.
This is the layshaft second gear, a 27-tooth gear off the gearbox layshaft, listed in the catalog under the older T974 number before it was renumbered to 57-0974. It lives inside the gearbox shell along with the rest of the shaft-and-gear cluster shown in the parts book under gearbox shafts and gears.

Second gear on the layshaft meshes with its mating gear on the mainshaft to give you that ratio when you're in second. Like the rest of the gear cluster, it takes a mesh with the mating mainshaft gear and a keyed or splined fit to the layshaft itself, so wear here usually shows up as noise or trouble holding the gear under load.
The catalog shows this part appearing across gearbox listings from 1960 into 1970. If you're rebuilding a box, it's worth checking the whole layshaft cluster while it's apart rather than just swapping the one gear, since wear on one member of the set often means wear on its mate too.
