SHIFT RUBBER, 56-67
Rubber cover for the gear-change lever tip (and mainstand end), catalog PN 57-0449, alias T449.
This is the shift rubber, 57-0449, the rubber cover that slips over the tip of the gear-change lever (and it also turns up on the mainstand tip in the catalog listings). It's a small closed-end rubber that keeps the boot heel from slipping off the bare metal end of the pedal when you're working the gearbox. The older book number for this one is T449, so if your parts book still lists it that way, it's the same piece under 57-0449.

It shows up across a wide run of gearbox and frame figures - outer cover, control pedals, selector mechanism - which just means it's a small hardware item that got carried in more than one drawing rather than a part tied to one specific spot. The catalog record puts it in service from 1960 through 1968, so if you're working on something from that era this is worth checking against what's currently on the lever.
It's a cheap thing to let go brittle and crack, and once it splits it stops doing its job of cushioning the lever tip and keeping your boot from marking up the chrome or slipping off under a hard shift. Worth keeping a spare on hand if you're doing any gearbox or lever work.
