BSA Spring, kickstart ratchet
Kickstart ratchet spring for the gearbox kickstart mechanism, part number 40-3273.
Part number 40-3273 is a kickstart ratchet spring, the small spring that keeps the kickstart ratchet mechanism engaged so the lever can drive the gearbox mainshaft when you kick the motor over, then let it disengage and reset once the engine fires. It shows up in the gearbox internals, listed under both the gear cluster and the footstart/footchange figures in the parts books, which tells you it sits right at the interface between the kickstart mechanism and the gear cluster it drives.

Our catalog record ties this one to appearances spanning 1969 to 1970, though the tag on file for it as a BSA part doesn't line up clean with the figure titles we have, so don't take that as gospel either way. If you're rebuilding a kickstart mechanism and the ratchet isn't snapping back the way it should, a tired or broken spring like this is a common culprit.
Given how little detail we've got on file beyond the description and figures, give us a call before ordering so we can confirm this is the right spring for your particular gearbox setup.
We've never carried this one. Tell us what you're after and we'll go looking — you'll get a price and photos before you commit to anything.
