Brake cam lever (rear)
Brake cam lever for the 1968 front drum brake, listed under 37-1999 (aliases L16U, W1999).
37-1999 is a brake cam lever, the arm that mounts on the end of the brake camshaft in the drum and gets pulled by the operating rod or cable to rotate the cam and spread the brake shoes. In our records it shows up under the FRONT WHEEL figure for 1968, and it also carries the older alias numbers L16U and W1999, which is worth knowing if you're working from an early parts book that lists it that way.

This is a small, simple piece of hardware, but it takes real leverage every time the brake is applied, so it's worth checking for wear at the pivot hole and where it keys onto the camshaft flats before you button the wheel back up. If yours is stripped, cracked, or the splines are rounded off, that's your brake pedal or lever feel going soft or inconsistent.
Given the 1968 catalog listing, cross check the shape and mounting against what's actually on your hub before ordering, since small differences in these levers between years and models are common.
