Lever return spring
Return spring for the rear brake lever on the rear wheel/brake drum assembly, pulls the brake arm back off the drum when you let off the pedal.
37-1488 is the return spring for the rear brake lever on Triumph twins, tied to the quickly-detachable rear wheel and rear brake drum setup. Once you release the brake pedal, this spring pulls the operating lever back to its resting position so the brake shoes come off the drum cleanly instead of dragging.

It shows up across the rear wheel and QD rear wheel figures in our books from 1964 through 1974, so it's a long-running item in the parts catalogs rather than a one-year fitment. The legacy alias W1488 is just the older stamped form of the same part number.
These are small parts that lose their temper and go weak with age, which shows up as a brake pedal that doesn't snap back the way it should. If your pedal feels sluggish returning or the shoes seem to be dragging on the drum, this spring is a cheap thing to check first.
