Circlip
A circlip fitted in the quickly detachable rear wheel assembly on older Triumphs, PN 37-1044.
37-1044 is a circlip used in the quickly detachable rear wheel setup on the older Triumphs that had that QD wheel arrangement. It shows up in the parts book under the figure for the QD rear wheel, both in the U.S.A. version and the non-U.S.A. version of that assembly, so it's a component specific to that wheel design rather than a general fastener bin part.

A circlip like this one holds a component in place on a shaft or in a bore by snapping into a groove, keeping things from walking sideways under load or vibration. On the QD rear wheel, that's what it's doing here, retaining a part of the hub or spindle assembly so the wheel comes apart and goes back together the way it's supposed to.
The catalog record shows this one under its own number, 37-1044, and also under the older W1044 form for anyone working from an earlier parts book. Appears across catalog listings from 1960 through 1969 for the QD rear wheel figure. If you're not sure your bike used the QD wheel setup, bring it up at the counter and we'll sort out what you actually need.
