Needle
Jet needle for an Amal carburetor, part 32/028, meters fuel through the mid-range throttle openings.
This is the jet needle for an Amal carburetor, part number 32/028. It's the small tapered pin that rides inside the needle jet and controls fuel metering through the mid-range of the throttle opening. If your carb is running rich or lean off idle but seems fine at full throttle, or it's hunting and surging on a steady throttle, a worn or bent needle is one of the usual suspects.

Our catalog record shows this one turning up in Amal Carburetter Type figures across appearances from 1963 to 1964. That's all we've got tying it to a particular carb type or model, so before you order, check the number stamped or listed on your own carburetor and match it against your parts book to be sure this is the right needle for your setup.
These wear over time from the constant contact with the needle jet, so if the bike's been running a while since the carb was last apart, it's worth pulling it to inspect regardless of what symptoms you're chasing.
