Locknut - stop switch operating screw
A locknut that secures the rear brake stop switch operating screw in place.
This is a small locknut that holds the stop switch operating screw in place. On the bike it works alongside the rear brake light switch setup, keeping the adjustment screw from wandering out of position once it's set. It shows up in the catalog under both the rear brake and electrical components figures, since the stop switch straddles both jobs - it's a mechanical linkage that trips an electrical switch.

Because it's a locknut for an adjuster screw rather than a structural fastener, its whole purpose is to keep your brake light switch timing where you set it. If it goes missing or backs off, the switch adjustment can drift and the brake light stops working right or comes on too early or late.
Our catalog record for this one is thin - it appears twice, tied to 1983-1985. If you're chasing down a stop switch issue on an earlier bike, give us a call and we'll confirm whether this same part applies before you order.
