Socket nut (5/16 in.)
A 5/16 inch cylinder head socket nut used on T140 and TR7 engines, paired with a bridge plate at the head.
This is a 5/16 inch socket nut used on the cylinder head of the T140V and T140E, and TR7RV engines. It's one of the head nuts that clamps the cylinder head down onto the barrels, working alongside a bridge plate arrangement rather than a simple flat washer setup. The recessed socket design lets it seat down into the head casting where a standard nut wouldn't have clearance.

These show up across the cylinder block and head figures for these engines from the mid-'70s through the mid-'80s catalog years. If you're rebuilding a head on one of these engines, it's worth checking all the head nuts for thread condition and corrosion since they see a lot of heat cycling right at the top of the motor.
We also stock the companion bridge plate and the 3/8 inch version of this same nut used elsewhere on the head, so if you're doing a full retorque or rebuild it's worth checking you've got the right mix of both sizes on hand.
