This is the rotor nut that holds the alternator rotor onto the crankshaft on Triumph 500 twins. It's a sleeve-type nut, threaded 9/16-18, and it sits right at the end of the crank where the rotor keys on for the alternator.

The catalog lists this one for 1969-on 500 Triumphs, and it shows up in the crankshaft and connecting rods section of the parts book, which tells you it's tied directly to crank assembly work rather than anything on the primary side. A tab washer is normally used with this nut to keep it from backing off once it's torqued down.
