This is a field coil for a Lucas E3H series dynamo, the generator design used across a range of British bikes before alternators took over. The field coil is the winding that sits inside the dynamo body and creates the magnetic field the armature spins through to produce current. If your dynamo has gone weak or dead, a tired or shorted field coil is one of the usual suspects.
