Gearbox sprocket retaining nut for Norton singles and twins, left-hand thread.
This is the sprocket nut that secures the gearbox sprocket on the mainshaft, holding the drive sprocket in place so it can transfer power back to the rear wheel. It shows up in the gearbox figure alongside the shell, gear cluster, sprocket, and mounting bolt, so that's where it lives mechanically - right at the output end of the box.
