Norton KICK START SPRING EARLY - LAY DOWN GEARBOX PRE-62
Kickstart return spring for the early pre-1962 lay-down gearbox.
This is the kickstart return spring for the early lay-down gearbox used before 1962. It's the spring that pulls the kickstart lever back up to its resting position once you've swung it through and the engine has fired. On these early gearboxes the spring sits down inside the gearbox shell around the kickstart shaft, doing its job out of sight until it gets weak or breaks and the lever stops returning on its own.

The part number shows up in the old parts books both with and without the punctuation (040043 and 04.0043 are the same spring), so if you're working from an older book and the format looks different, you're still in the right place.
We don't have a lot of catalog history on this specific one beyond the early lay-down gearbox association, so if you're not sure your gearbox is the pre-62 lay-down type, give us a call before you order and we'll help you sort out which spring your box actually takes.
Sorry if we got something wrong here. If you think this information isn't correct, .
