Norton Rocker Adjuster Nut
Locking nut for the rocker arm adjuster screw, used to hold valve clearance settings in the cylinder head.
NMT232 is a rocker adjuster nut, the small locking nut that sits on the rocker arm adjuster screw up in the cylinder head. It's the piece that holds your valve clearance setting once you've got it dialed in with a feeler gauge - you turn the adjuster to set the gap, then snug this nut down against the rocker to keep it from creeping out of adjustment while the engine's running.

It shows up in the parts books under Cylinder, Cylinder Head and Fittings and Valve Gear, which is exactly where you'd expect a nut like this to live. Our catalog record ties it to appearances across 1971 to 1973, though we don't have more detail than that on specific models.
These are cheap enough and small enough that it's worth having a spare or two around when you're doing a valve clearance check, since they're easy to drop into the rocker box or strip if someone's leaned on them with the wrong spanner over the years.
