This is a filler cap for the oil tank, catalog part 82-3216, also cross-referenced as F3216 and FC001. It shows up in the parts book under PETROL AND OIL TANKS / OIL TANK, and the catalog record covers appearances from 1963 through 1968.

The cap seals the top of the oil tank where you top off oil, and it's the kind that pushes down and turns to lock in place rather than threading on like a screw cap. The catalog notes this one has no vent and no dipstick built in, so if your original cap doubled as a dipstick for checking oil level, this replacement won't do that job for you.
If you're not sure whether your bike originally ran a vented or unvented, dipstick or plain cap, check what's currently on the tank before ordering, since oil tank caps varied across the Triumph and BSA range over the years.
