CYL BASE STUD 650
Grooved cylinder base stud for the 650 twin, used at the hollow barrel dowel location, PN 70-3523.
This is the grooved cylinder base stud for the 650 twin, PN 70-3523, listed under the CRANKCASE section of the parts book. It's also known by the earlier E3523 form and shows up alongside 70-0672 as part of the base stud set. The groove on this particular stud marks it out from the plain studs in the set — it's the one used where the hollow cylinder barrel dowel goes, so it's not interchangeable position-for-position with the others in the set.

Cylinder base studs run down through the barrel and into the crankcase, holding the cylinder block down to the cases. Since this stud sits at a dowel location, getting it in the right spot matters when you're reassembling the top end. Our catalog entry for this one only ties it to 1965, so if you're working on a different year, check your parts book or give us a call before ordering.
These studs take a fair bit of abuse over the years from removal and heat cycling, so if you're splitting the cases or pulling the barrel it's worth inspecting the full set rather than just swapping the one that broke.
