OIL SEAL KICKSTART SHAFT TRIUMPH 500 - X RING (O-RING)
O-ring style oil seal for the kickstart shaft on Triumph 500 gearboxes.
This is the oil seal for the kickstart shaft on Triumph 500 gearboxes, part number 57-2239, also known under the older T2239 designation. It lives in the gearbox outer cover, where the kickstart shaft passes through to the lever outside, and its job is to keep gearbox oil in while letting the shaft pivot freely every time the kickstart is used.

It's an X-ring (O-ring) style seal rather than the more common lipped seal design, so it seats and seals a bit differently in the cover bore. Catalog records show it appearing across gearbox outer cover and lever assemblies from 1967 to 1974, so it's a part that gets specified pretty often when someone's rebuilding that end of the box.
If you're pulling the outer cover for any reason - kickstart return spring, quadrant, or general gearbox service - this is a good one to replace while you're in there, since a tired seal here is a common source of a slow oil weep at the kickstart lever.
