Clutch operating rod
Clutch operating rod (57-1970/T1970) for the unit-construction Triumph gearbox, running through the mainshaft to release the clutch when the lever is pulled.
57-1970 is the clutch operating rod out of the gearbox outer cover on the smaller unit-construction Triumph twins. It runs down through the gearbox mainshaft, transferring pressure from the clutch lever mechanism at the outer cover to the clutch itself, so when you pull the lever in the rod pushes through and releases the plates. The older parts books list this same piece under T1970, so if you're working from an early catalog or a part bin marked with the letter prefix, that's the identical rod.

This one shows up in the GEARBOX OUTER COVER AND LEVERS section of the parts books across catalog appearances running 1964 through 1974, which tells you it's a long-lived item for that gearbox family rather than something changed every year or two. It's worth noting Triumph used a different, longer pushrod over on the 650/750 unit twins, so this is not a part you want to cross over between the two families just because they look similar in the diagram.
If your clutch has developed a soft or inconsistent lever feel, a worn or bent operating rod is one of the things worth checking along with the usual cable and thrust washer suspects. It's a simple, inexpensive part to keep in the drawer if you're doing clutch work and don't want to pull the cover twice.
