LEVER SHAFT, CLUTCH MECH
The clutch lever shaft that pivots in the gearbox outer cover to work the clutch release mechanism.
The 57-1710 is the lever shaft for the clutch actuating mechanism, mounted in the gearbox outer cover. This is the shaft that the clutch lever pivots on outside the cover, and it's what pushes the clutch operating rod through to release the clutch plates when you pull the clutch lever in. Catalog listings show this part under the older T1710 number as well, so if you're working from an early parts book that's the same physical piece.

It shows up across gearbox outer cover and inner cover figures over a long catalog run, which tells you this shaft carried through a lot of unit-construction gearbox variants without much change. Worth checking wear at the pivot point and in the cover bushing when you're in there for a clutch adjustment or a leaking outer cover gasket, since a sloppy shaft will show up as vague or inconsistent clutch lever feel.
If you're replacing this while the cover's off anyway, it's a good idea to look at the felt seal or O-ring around the shaft where it passes through the cover, and the actuating arm and clutch rod it works against, while everything's apart.
