Stop lamp switch, type 22B
Lucas 22B-type stop lamp switch, pull-on style, mounted near the chainguard to trigger the rear brake light.
Part number 31437 is a Lucas type 22B stop lamp switch. This is the rear brake light switch, and it lives down by the chainguard where it can be pulled on by the movement of the rear brake linkage. When you get on the rear brake pedal, the linkage tugs a cable or spring, and that slides the internal contact in the switch to make the connection and light the brake lamp.

It shows up across catalog listings from 1963 to 1968, appearing in the swinging fork and suspension unit figures as well as under its own stator/tail-lamp/stop-lamp switch heading, which tells you this switch shares a home with the rear suspension hardware rather than being tucked inside a headlamp shell or under the seat.
The factory eventually superseded this part number with 54033234T, so if you're cross-referencing an older parts book against a newer one, that's the number you'll see for the same physical switch. Worth checking the two wires and the pull-on mechanism for wear when you're troubleshooting a brake light that won't come on or won't shut off.
